The Chemistry Department at Brookdale
The Chemistry program provides educational experience in chemical theory and practice that engages students, gives them hands-on experimentation, and helps them to appreciate the role that science plays in our world. Students will learn how to explain basic chemical concepts and theories, and to apply them to solve chemical problems.
Graduates from Brookdale’s Chemistry program typically transfer to four-year colleges to continue to the baccalaureate level. Career choices for B.S. graduates include employment with pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, food and drink companies, health and medical organizations, and scientific research firms. Employment of chemists and materials scientists is projected to grow 6 percent from 2012 to 2022. In May 2012, ththe most recent reporting year, the median annual wage for chemists with a bachelor’s degree was $71,770. The department offers chemistry courses in an environment that provides the resources that facilitate students’ ability to meet their educational goals. In addition, the faculty is committed to innovative instructional strategies, continual curriculum renewal, and rigorous professional standards.
