Early Bird Program for High School Seniors

Group of Multicultural Students Outside

What is Early Bird?

Early Bird is an orientation and registration program designed to help high school Seniors make a smooth transition into the Brookdale Community. We, Recruitment Services, work closely with local high schools to make information, applications, and testing available to students. Interested students should ask their guidance office about Early Bird participation.

The Early Bird Day occurs in May or early June. Applicants are usually invited the same day as their schoolmates. Students participating in the Early Bird Program are guaranteed required program courses for their first (Fall) semester.

When is an Admissions Representative visiting my school?

Check our calendar to see when a representative will be coming to your school.

What will be required?

Every student must submit a completed application to us and fulfill the Basic Skills Exam requirement.

We encourage students to send in applications as soon as possible. To aid students, Admissions Representatives will conduct information sessions and administer the Basic Skills Exam at most Monmouth County High Schools specifically for Early Bird. Interested students should check with their guidance office to find out about participation in the Early Bird Program.

If we are not scheduled to administer the exam at your school, you will be responsible for taking it at Brookdale Community College’s main campus in Lincroft. You may also contact one of Brookdale’s Campuses or Learning Centers to schedule a time to take the exam. Contact our Testing Center if you have special testing needs.

How can I review for the Basic Skills Test?

You may view similar content and questions on-line. Additional Information about the placement exam is available at Brookdale’s Pre-Registration Test page. Practice questions at www.testpreview.com are also helpful to many students

My school doesn’t participate in Early Bird.

That’s okay. If your school does not currently participate in Early Bird or you are an out-of-county resident, you may still participate as long as you satisfy the mandatory requirements in a timely fashion. If we are not scheduled to administer the exam at your school, you will be responsible for taking it at Brookdale Community College’s main campus in Lincroft. You may also contact one of Brookdale’s neighborhood centers to schedule a time to take the exam.

Contact our Testing Center if you have special testing needs.

What happens on Early Bird Day?

So you’ve applied, taken the basic skills exam, and have found your way to campus….now what?

Sample Orientation Agenda

Session 1
You’ll check in to let us know you’ve arrived. We’ll confirm that you’ve applied and taken the basic skills exam. At this point you will be assigned a Student Development Specialist and receive a card with important information on it. We will provide you with a light breakfast.

Session 2
We will review the day’s events and the registration process at Brookdale. Then we will give you a general overview of what to expect from Brookdale, what it takes to be successful here, and the opportunities available to you.

Session 3
We will split you up by academic counseling areas. A Student Development Specialist will help you select appropriate courses for your first semester based on your major and placement test results.

Session 4
You will then take your registration slip with your Student Development Specialist’s signature on it to the Center for Admissions and Registration (CAR building.) At this point you will actually REGISTER (sign up) for the classes you selected. Payment for fall courses will be due at a later time for students participating in Early Bird.

Session 5
You will return to a designated area to check in with us so we can double check your information. You will then go get your picture taken for your student photo ID card. Once you return with your correct schedule and completed envelope, we will provide you with lunch. We will be available for campus tours and to answer questions. Otherwise, you are free to leave.
