What is Ally?

The purpose of the Ally program is to provide welcoming spaces on campus that are highly visible and easily identifiable as spaces where support and understanding are key and where bigotry and discrimination are not tolerated. By placing the Ally symbol on their door or in their office space, volunteers signify that they have received training about LGBT concerns and that within their space all people will be treated with respect. Though primarily intended to indicate welcoming space for students who identify as LGBT or are questioning their sexual orientation, volunteers intend to demonstrate dignity to all members of campus regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, class, religion, age or ability.
