Student Life & Activities supports community service in our efforts to build community throughout Monmouth County and beyond. Through our partnerships with other Brookdale departments and community organizations we help to plan events such as the ones listed below. In addition, all recognized clubs and organizations are required to complete one service project to remain in good standing.
In Academic Year 2012/2013, 355 students participated in over 725 hours of service through club and organization efforts alone. In addition, Brookdale has been recognized on the Presidential Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in 2007, 2009 and 2013.
Alternative Spring Break with Habitat for Humanity
York, Pennsylvania – Spring 2014
Waynesburg, Pennsylvania – Spring 2013
Anniston, Alabama – Spring 2012
Each year since 2012, Student Life & Activities has partnered with Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge program to bring students on a week long service project. Habitat provides housing, supervision and materials through their local affiliates, and students get to learn invaluable skills in construction and team-building while helping ensure that every family have a safe, affordable place to live.
Community Service Events
Every semester, Student Life & Activities partners with other departments on campus and local community agencies to provide our students with one-day service opportunities and awareness campaigns, both on an off-campus. Examples of collaboration in the past include the Monmouth County ASPCA, Shore Habitat for Humanity, Clean Ocean Action’s Beach Sweep, Lunch Break, The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and more! Check the CALENDAR for upcoming service opportunities, and check out some pics below of previous service projects.
