The recently renovated Robert J. Collins Arena, on the Lincroft campus, is a multi-purpose facility used for athletic competitions and special events. The venue was modernized in 2010 to accommodate concerts, trade shows, tournaments and more. Renovations included upgrades to the seating, flooring, restrooms, concessions, locker rooms, and the HVAC system, as well as the installation of new elevators.
The Arena is now fully ADA compliant and provides all the amenities that customers expect from a modern performance venue.
The Arena was named in honor of Robert J. Collins in 2002. Mr. Collins served 18 years as the County Administrator for Monmouth County and was a member of the Brookdale Community College Foundation Board. While attending Matawan High School, Collins was a star athlete in both baseball and basketball. His accomplishments on and off the field earned him a spot in his high school’s Hall of Fame years later.
The Collins Arena contains a 4-lane indoor track on the upper level that is 1/10 of a mile (10 laps = 1 mile). The track is available to Fitness Center members during scheduled hours Monday through Friday. The track is also used for fitness and recreation courses, team conditioning exercises, and community events. (During these times, it will not be available for general use.)
On the lower level, the Arena floor serves as the home to the Jersey Blues men’s and women’s basketball teams. The main floor of the Arena has a distinct floor plan and is approximately 17,000 square feet. The seating layout forms the shape of a capital letter “D”, with one straight section and two curved sections. New bleachers were installed in the two curved sections and premium seats (individual stadium seats with back support) were added to the straight section. The basketball hoops are portable and the bleachers can be pulled out by sections or pushed in completely.
Special features of the Arena include men’s and women’s locker rooms, coaches’ offices, athletic training rooms,a green room, two upper-level concession stands, and a first-class upper level hospitality suite.
The Collins Arena hosts, among others, the annual Harlem Globetrotters visit and the Quarterfinals of the Boy’s and Girl’s Shore Conference Basketball Tournament each year. In addition to basketball games, a wide range of events such as trade shows, cheer & dance competitions, martial arts tournaments, and concerts are featured at the Arena.
