About the Basic Skills Placement Test (Accuplacer)

The Basic Skills Placement Test (Accuplacer Exam) is a test that is used to determine your placement in college composition courses at Brookdale.  You will need to achieve a certain percentage of correct responses in order to enter composition courses that will count toward your GPA.  Those of you who fall short of the required percentage will be placed in English 095:  Fundamentals of Writing, a non-credit course, that will prepare you for the challenges of college writing.  (See Course Descriptions for more information about this course).

As a result of the significance of this exam on your placement, you should take the exam seriously as it will have both an academic and economic impact on your college career.  If you are too tired, distracted, or feeling that you are not ready mentally or emotionally to take the test today, reschedule and take the test on a date when you may know you will be better prepared to take the test.

More questions about the test and its impact can be asked of the counselor you have been assigned when your Brookdale Community College status was determined.  Feel free to contact the Counseling office at 732-224-4500 to find out who your counselor is so you can be better informed about the test.
