1. How can I access the Bankier Library online databases from home?

Connect to the Bankier Library homepage. Under "Find It…", click on Online Databases; click on your database of choice; enter your name and 14-digit library barcode can be found on the back of your Brookdale Community College photo ID card.

A learning assistant at (732/224-2443) will be able to walk you through the process of remotely connecting you to the online databases from home.

2. How can I find my barcode?

Your 14-digit library barcode is on the back side of your Brookdale Community College photo ID card.

3. How and where can I get a library card?

Your Brookdale Community College photo ID card is also your Bankier Library card. To obtain a photo ID card, bring your class registration form (required for students) and your driver's license to the Arcade Room of the Donald E. Warner Student Life Center. For further information call (732) 224-3403 or 2788.
Fall & spring semesters

4. How do I get my ID card validated?

Students, faculty and staff do not need to get your photo ID card validated to use the Bankier Library resources.

To get discounted rates for theater and bus trips available through the Student Life and Activities Center, your ID card must be validated. Each semester in which you are enrolled for college credit classes; go to the Donald E. Warner Student Life Center Information Desk, and bring a copy of your registration form (required) to get your ID card validated.

5. What if my patron privileges have expired?

    6. How can I find out what books, videotapes and other resources the Bankier Library owns?

    Connect to the Bankier Library homepage. There are two options to search the online library catalog:

  • Option#1: In the "Quick search by:" box, enter keyword(s), title or author, etc... then click "go", or
  • Option#2: Under "Find It…" click on Online Catalog; click on the appropriate search choice i.e. keyword(s), title, author, etc...; enter your search string, then click "submit search"

    8. How can I find out what's on reserve for my classes?

  • Connect to the Bankier Library homepage; Under "Get It…," click on either Reserves by Instructor or Reserves by Course
  • Note: If you did not find your instructor's name listed, try Reserves by Course.

    10. How can I find current magazine and newspaper articles online?

    Connect to the Bankier Library homepage. Under "Find it...", click on Online Databases or from the drop down menu labeled "Most frequently Used Databases".

  • Select Academic ASAP or Academic Search Premier for the most popular magazines.
  • Select LexisNexis Academic for national and international newspapers.
  • Select New York Times - LexisNexis for the New York Times.

    11. How can I find old newspaper articles?

  • The online database New York Times - Historical Newspapers goes back to 1851;
  • Microfilm of The New York Times in the periodicals area, second floor, goes back to 1914.

    12. How can I find information about colleges, careers, and jobs?

    There are three options:

  • Option#1: Search the Bankier Library Online Catalog, or
  • Option#2: Browse the collection of books arranged in sections: "colleges", "college catalogs", "careers", " tests/exams", "graduate schools", "scholarships/financial aid", "jobs", "resumes", and "internships", located in the Information Commons, or
  • Option#3: Go to the Bankier Libary homepage, under "Online Resources" click on Topical Websites & Research Guides, then click on "Careers and Jobs" and "College Transfer".

    13. How can I access eBooks, (electronic books) online?

    There are three options:

  • Option#1: Keyword(s) or title search in the Bankier Library Online Catalog, or
  • Option#2: Under "Find It…", click on eBooks, and then click on List of subscribed eBooks... or
  • Option#3: For reference eBooks, click on Electronic Reference Resources.

    14. What is in Dr. Mark Bankier Special Collections Room?

    New Jersey books and materials; photography books; graphic arts books; Holocaust books and Brookdale Archives collections are available for research and browsing.

    15. Where are the law books?

  • The law book collection is shelved at the end of the "Z" section of the circulating books, second floor.
  • There are also books about the law in the KF sections shelved in the circulating and reference collections.

    16. What are "folio" books?

    Folio are oversized books that are too tall and wide to reside with the rest of the circulating collection. Folio books are shelved at the end of the law books, second floor.

    17. How can I connect my laptop to the College network in the Library?

    You may use wireless connection or plug your laptop into an outlet of any individual study carrel or group study or viewing room.

    18. Who may use a computer in the Information Commons of the Bankier Library?

    Students, faculty, staff, High tech high school and communiversity students, Monmouth county residents, and courtesy card holders are welcome.

    19. How can I learn to use a computer if I am a beginner?

    An online tutorial called Mousercize is available in English and Spanish.

    21. Where can I buy a copy card to use for printing my documents?

    There are two copy card vending machines at the printer station by the Information Commons HELP Desk. As necessary, ask a learning assistant for assistance.

    22. What is the Information Commons?

    The Information Commons is the only open computer lab with 200 plus computer workstations, 3 pay-for-printing printer stations, a printed reference collection, a Media Authoring Lab and three library instructional rooms. The HELP Desk staff (professional librarians and learning assistants) will assist you with questions about library research, and the computers and printers. Read more about the Information Commons.

    23. How can I print in the Information Commons?

    There are three laser printers for all of the computers in the Information Commons: $ .10 for each black-and-white page; $ .90 for each color page.

    To print your documents in the Information Commons you will need to purchase a copy card.

    If you do not want to pay for printing, you can save your work to a disk or e-mail your work (or the file, the text, or the web site) to your e-mail address. Then you can print from your computer at home or elsewhere.

    24. How can I make photocopies?

    There are 2 black-and-white photocopiers, one by the Multimedia Area, first floor ; the other is in Dr. Mark Bankier Special Collections Room, second floor. Each printed page costs $ .10. Both photocopiers take coin(s) or a dollar bill.

    25. How can I get dollar bills from larger bills?

    The bill dispenser machine, near the Information Commons HELP Desk, first floor, accepts ONLY $5 and $10 bills and gives back $1's.

    26. How can I save my work when using Microsoft Office suite?

    There are four (4) save as options:

  • Option#1: save to a floppy disk in the [A:] DRIVE, or
  • Option#3: save to a DVD/CD-ROM in the removal [D:] drive, or
  • Option#2: save to a zip disk in the removal [E:] Drive, or
  • Option#4: save to a USB flash or memory disk in the removal [F:] drive

    27. How can I find out my Brookdale email address, user name, and password?

    Connect to the Brookdale Community College webpage; click on Web Email, then follow directions under the Student E-Mail Lookup to locate your username and password.

    28. How can I get into ANGEL (Learning Management System)?

  • To login to ANGEL, go to: http://brookdale.angellearning.com
  • Your ANGEL User ID and Password will be the same as your Brookdale email name and password. (Note: Your User ID is not the entire e-mail address (jsmith1@mail.brookdalecc.edu) - just the user name: jsmith1. Your password is as indicated. When you log in, use all lowercase letters.)
  • Should you encounter any TECHNICAL problems, please phone the ANGEL Helpdesk at 877-725-4357 or the Teaching and Learning Center at 732-224-2089.

    30. What is ANGEL ?

    Brookdale uses ANGEL as the learning management system for online courses and support pages. Both students and faculty use ANGEL to access their online courses.

    31. How do I get into WebAdvisor?

    Connect to the Brookdale Community College webpage; click WebAdviser located in the Banner. Click on Students, or Faculty or Employees.

    32. What is WebAdvisor and how can I find my WebAdvisor number?

  • WebAdvisor is a Web interface that allows you to access information contained in the administrative database used by Brookdale Community College.
  • The WebAdvisor User ID is the ID number that's on your registration receipt and on your BCC Photo ID Card.

    33. How can I check my class schedule or my grades online?

    Log in to WebAdvisor and click on "Class Schedule" or "grades". Select the appropriate semester or term.

    34. How do I sign up online for an appointment with the Writing Center?

    Connect to the Brookdale Community College webpage. Click on Department Pages, under Academic Departments & Divisions, click on English, then click on Writing Center. Follow the instructions to make online appointments.

    35. Where can I get floppy or zip disks, CDs, and USB flash drives?

    Floppy, CDs, zip disks, and USB flash drives are available for purchase at the Scroll & Pen College Bookstore located in the Donald E. Warner Student Life Center.

    36. Where can I find a quiet place to study?

    There are individualized study carrels and small tables, second floor. Group study rooms (19 on the second floor and 5 on the first floor) are available for more than one person. Reservations may be required and should be made, in person, at the circulation desk. Read more about the group study room policy.

    37. Where may I study aloud with other students?

    There are 19 study rooms. Groups of two or more students may make reservations for two-hour time blocks by speaking with the Circulation staff, second floor.

    38 . Where are the accommodations for the disabled?

  • In rooms LIB128 and LIB129, first floor, there are an Optelec and a print enlarger.
  • Wheel chair can pull up to any workstation in the Information Commons.
  • Ask a computer technician for assistance.
