Tuesday, October 13: “The Mulberry Miracle on D-Day, 6 June 1944” lecture by J. Wandres, writer and naval historian. Wandres will discuss the use of the series of concrete breakwaters, submersible pier-heads and floating causeways that were towed across the English Channel and positioned off the Normandy beaches within 48 hours after the first invasion of the beaches. Tuesday, October 23: “Remembering World War II in Holland: A Child’s Perspective” lecture by wartime survivor and writer, Mieke Jansma. Hear the compelling story of the impact of WWII on children, both during and after the conflict in Holland. Tuesday, November 3: “Rise and Use of Electronic Warfare in Military Operations” lecture by John Cervini, former civilian employee, US Army Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate, Fort Monmouth. Monmouth County was the site of major technological developments fielded during WWII. Currently the industry liaison for InfoAge Science and Learning Center, Wall, Cervini will trace the history of electronic warfare and how it contributed to the advancement, in particular, of the US military. Friday, November 20: “Swing Era Dinner & Dance” with ‘South Pacific’ theme featuring conductor Joe Accurso and the Brookdale Big Band. The program will be held at Gibbs Hall, Fort Monmouth from 6:00 p.m. – 10:0 p.m. The event code is XWWTS 204. Tickets are $55 pp with a cash bar. All ages are welcome – 40’s style dress encouraged. Tuesday, December 1: “Hidden History-Radar Development: Sandy Hook, NJ 1933-42” lecture by Michael Eberhardt, Rutgers University intern, National Park Service. Cloaked in secrecy, local developments were of some of the most important technologies of WWII. The radar for the US Army was tasked to the Signal Corps based at Fort Monmouth and the development took place at Sandy Hook.
