Haitian Earthquake Relief: Ways to Help, Near and Far
Published on Thursday, January 14, 2010

The major earthquake which has devastated Haiti will affect many of us here at home in New Jersey. Brookdale's population includes numerous Haitian Americans who have been personally affected by this tragedy.

There are a number of ways you can assist with providing comfort and support to our neighbors and/or to the relief effort, including:

  • Text HAITI to 90999 which will automatically donate $10.00 to the American Red Cross

  • Contact the State Department Operations Center at 1-888-407-4747

  • Donate through Wyclef Jean’s "Yele Haiti," an organization already set-up to help the struggling country. Simply text Yele to 501 501 to donate $5 to the efforts.

  • The Coalition for Haitian-American Empowerment is collecting food, medical supplies, blankets, and money. There are two drop-off locations. To drop off your donation with the City of Asbury Park, call Eve Silver at 502-5190. You may also go to the All-in-One Tax Office, 1310 Asbury Avenue, Asbury Park. Contact Christian Louis at 455-5546.

  • Brookdale's Scroll & Pen Bookstore is collecting cash donations on behalf of the Red Bank Salvation Army.

And finally, an updated list of events and collections currently underway here at Brookdale is published on the President's Page.
