Student Life & Activities opens its Fall Lecture Series on Thursday, September 27, at 7 PM in the Warner Student Life Center, Navesink Rooms, with ABC’s John Quiñones and his presentation, “What Would You Do?”
John Quiñones is an Emmy Award-winning journalist who has been with ABC News for 25 years, with both “Primetime” and the “20/20” news magazine.
Quiñones’ recent work includes a series of reports titled, “What Would You Do?”
In these reports, which test human nature, actors present controversial scenarios to elicit responses from unsuspecting bystanders, who are filmed with a hidden camera. Such scenarios have involved interracial couples, gays and lesbians, senior citizens and more; the presentation may involve theft, argument, abuse and the like, designed to test bystanders reactions.
Also among Quiñones’ reporting has been extensive coverage of a religious sect in Arizona that forces young female members to take part in polygamous marriages. He has gone undercover with a hidden camera to reveal how medical clinics perform unnecessary surgical procedures as accomplices in a major national insurance scam; and has covered the plight of Mexican immigrants and effects of suicide bombing in the Middle East.
Admission to his presentation at Brookdale is $5 for community members, and free for Brookdale students with a current ID. Tickets are available at the Warner Center Information Desk; information is available by phoning (732) 224-2500.
