Mr. Jacob Elkes, Chairman of the Brookdale Board of Trustees, has resigned his position as Chairman; he will remain on the Board as a trustee until the Monmouth County Freeholders appoint a replacement.
First appointed to the Board in 1996, Elkes has been reappointed for consecutive terms up to the present.
Elkes has served as Chair of the Board’s Buildings and Grounds Committee, and also served on the Finance Committee and the Policy Committee. He served as liaison to the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education at Brookdale, and is currently liaison to the Brookdale Foundation.
By virtue of his position as Board Chair, Mr. Elkes is also on the Board of School Estimate.
From 1998 until 2011, Elkes served as Vice Chair of the Board, and thus served ex officio on all committees. As Vice Chair, in May of 2011 he assumed the post of Chair when then Chair Howard Birdsall resigned from the Board. Elkes was then was elected to the post of Chair in November of 2011 and has served as Chair since then.
Elkes will serve out his term though October 31 as a trustee (not as Chair). In the interim, Vice Chair Brian Butch will assume the Chair’s duties. The Board’s Nominating Committee will put forth suggestions for new trustees at the Board’s November 8 meeting.
