Brookdale Big Band Keeps Swing Alive!
The 18-piece Brookdale Big Band returns to the Performing Arts Center at 8 PM on Saturday, April 27, to mark the finish of their 28th year performing swing music.
The Brookdale Big Band was founded in 1985 by Joseph Accurso to preserve and promote the uniquely American form of music known as swing - made popular by the likes of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. The Brookdale Big Band, comprised of professional musicians from the Central New Jersey area, specializes in the repertoire of many of these artists.
The Big Band features Barbara Baron as vocalist.
Swing, beginning in the 1930s, departed from the traditional forms of jazz and relied on syncopated melodies and wailing horns. The Brookdale Big Band keeps this style of music - recognized around the world as America’s classical music - alive and kicking.
Tickets are $17 for the general public, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students with a valid Brookdale ID card.
