- Nursing advanced placement is a process whereby LPNs licensed in the state of New Jersey can challenge out of the first 3 semesters of nursing courses in the Brookdale Nursing program, a five semester program. The Brookdale Nursing program culminates with an Associates Degree in Applied Science and entitles graduates to take the examination for RN licensure. Any LPN currently licensed in the state of New Jersey, regardless of work experience or the number of years since graduation, is eligible for advanced placement.. For more information, see the Who is eligible section.
- Students successful in the challenge will enter the nursing program at the level at which they were successful (either NURS 162 or NURS 261). This could result in the nursing courses being completed in a minimum of one year (2 semesters). The successfully challenged credits will be held in escrow until the student has met the requirements for one semester of nursing courses at Brookdale. Escrow credits will be held for one year.
- The challenge process consists of written and skills exams and assignments designed to demonstrate competence in the material taught in the first 3 semesters. Coaching tools and reviews designed to promote success in the testing are provided, but not mandatory. For more information, see the how is it completed section.
- Nursing advanced placement is offered once a year in the Summer I session. Coaching activities begin in mid-May and conclude in mid-to-late June with a standardized multiple choice exam. Click here for the calendar for the upcoming year.
