2007 Recap

2007 GSAC Champions

After a slow start on their annual southern trip to Myrtle Beach, the Jersey Blues rallied and won the Garden State Athletic Conference (14-2), and clinched the no. 1 seed in the Region XIX Tournament.  Brookdale suffered two tough losses to Sussex and Camden that denied them a trip to the Junior College National Championship.  However, some of the players had outstanding seasons.  Allyson Melia was selected 2nd Team All American, as well as 1st Team NFCA.  First Team All Region selections were Ally Melia, Skye Rubel, Jenna Crisucuolo and Stephanie Reitzel.  Ally Melia was also selected 2007 Player of the Year in Region XIX.  Danielle Smith was a 2nd Team All Region selection.  Allyson Melia, Skye Rubel and Jenna Criscuolo were 1st Team All GSAC selections.  Booy Erbig and Amy Bankos were 2nd Team All GSAC selections.

2008 Outlook

The Jersey Blues will return six players from last year’s GSAC Championship Team.

Leading the pitching staff will be sophomore Amy Bankos (6-4, 3.44).  Jess Assip and Backy Sloan, both freshmen, will get a lot of pitching time.  Sophomore Skye Rubel (367 BA, 7 HR, 54 RBI) and freshman Crista Shea will share the catching duties.  Chrissy Cane will be a capable backup.  Skye Rubel was a First Team All Region selection last season.  Booy Erbig (336 BA, 142 B, 23 RBI) will be the starting first baseman.  Booy will also see playing time at second base and on the mound.  Sophomore Danielle Smith (354 BA, 4 HR, 43 RBI) will see some time at 1B and DP.  Sam Rooney, a good hitting freshman, will do likewise.  Amy Bankos (.390 BA) will also play at second base.  Freshman  Brianne Faynor should see some time at shortstop along with Booy Erbig, and freshman Samantha Wagner will be at third base.

The starting outfield will have All American Ally Melia (376 BA, 62 Runs Scored, 455 B) in center field.  Sophomore Kristen Rivera (368 BA) and hard-hitting Danielle Davenport will share left field.  Stephanie Horn and Skye Rubel will share time in right field.  Freshman Dawn Mariciani will be a capable backup.

The Jersey Blues are vastly improved in most areas.  The success of the pitching staff will likely determine how far the team goes in post season.  Stay tuned to another action packed and exciting season!
