2nd in National Tournament
After an uncharacteristic 12-15 start, the Jersey Blues rallied and won 24 out of 28 games in clinching a Garden State Athletic Conference (15-1), and clinched the No. 1 seed in the Region XIX Tournament. On May 4, 2008 Brookdale clinched the Region XIXChampionship with a thrilling 1-0 win over Camden. The Jersey Blues won the first three games in the National Tournament before losing to Monroe in the National Championship game. Many BCC players had outstanding seasons. Skye Rubel, Amy Bankos, Allyson Melia and Booy Erbig all made 1st Team All Region XIX and All GSAC. Danielle Davenport made 2nd Team All Region XIX and All GSAC. Allyson Melia made First Team All American. Allyson Melia, Amy Bankos and Booy Erbig made 1st Team NFCA All American.
2009 Outlook
The Jersey Blues will return five key players from last year’s GSAC Champion, Region XIX Champion and National Finalist team. Leading the pitching staff will be Group 2 All State and All Shore Selection Lexie DeRasmo and Jessica Carroll from Keyport, both freshmen. Sophomore Danielle Davenport (.364 BA, 17 2B and 30 RBI) an All Region XIX outfielder in 2008, will start behind the plate. Katelynn Horn a freshman, will be an able back-up. Sophomore Sam Rooney will see some time at first base and designated player. Freshman transfer Sam Deixler will do likewise. Freshman Sam Renner and Kelly Mormino will battle for the second base position. Both should see a significant amount of playing time. Sophomore Brianne Faynor will be the starting shortstop. Sophomore Sam Wagner (.312 BA, 4HR, 37 RBI) will return at third base. Sophomore Stephanie Horn (.389 BA, 1 HR, 21 RBI) will return and be the starting right fielder. Freshman speedster Kara Kelsey will patrol centerfield and hard-hitting Christina Masitti will play left field.
