Manhattan's Lower East Side - A Pictorial "Tour" And Tasting

Donald Magee, Amuse Bouche, graduate La Technique, French Culinary Institute

New York’s lower east side has always been a neighborhood in transition. Its origins as farmland became home to many immigrants: Irish, Italians, Poles, Ukrainians and Germans. Once known as Little Germany, today it has a large Puerto Rican and Dominican community, and is in the process of gentrification. Join cultural and culinary historian Don Magee, for a pictorial armchair “tour” and actual tasting. Take a virtual visit to synagogues and tenements, Essex Market, Sara D. Roosevelt Park, a Matzo factory, Economy Candy and more. Taste a German style beer, an Erdbeer Tortenboden (German Strawberry Torte), and the Dominican favorite dulce de leche y piña (milk and pineapple fudge).
