NEW! Journey To Medicine

Is medicine in your future? Explore the world of doctors and nurses. Be introduced to medical terminology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, in-the-lab simulated healthcare mannequin activities and more. Learn about medical professions you may not know exist. Visit a local hospital, experiencing it from a behind the scenes perspective. Workshops taught by nursing program faculty. Program includes CPR certification.

Grades: 6-9; $270, XCHLC 110

7/06-7/10, 9 am-2 pm

Summer Science Scene

Be a scientist this summer. Unravel mysteries and explore world wonders. Learn real scientific process skills; observing, estimating, measuring, classifying, predicting, hypothesizing and interpreting data through hands-on activities. Explore areas of earth, life and physical sciences and highlight a special theme of focus each day. Activities are age appropriate and vary by grade level.

Grades: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 6-7

Wonder Adventures – Reveal the magic of chemistry, attraction of magnetism, principles of aerodynamics and flight, mysteries of the dinosaurs and wonders of the human body including grossology 101 (S’not snot and Bogus blood!).

Grades: K-6, Code: XCHLC 068

Journey of Explorations – How do scientists explore outer space, the ocean depths, the rainforests, the magic of matter, energy, biology and more? Join us and find out! Program includes grossology of Phony Poo!

Grades: K-3, Code: XCHLC 069

If You Build It Challenges – Become an architect, engineer and construction worker for a week. Combine problem solving and technology skills to build a variety of structures. Design challenges may include: egg drop survival, marble raceway, raft building, catapult contest, flying gizmos (boomerang, parachute, gliders) and more. Program includes grossology of Spit Works and Belch Model.

Grades: K-6, Code: XCHLC 071

Building Bridges – A week long learning adventure engineering feat! Design, construct and test different types of bridges; suspension, beam, arch, cantilever and motion. Learn how to build bigger and better using ingenuity, creativity and scientific solutions.

Grades: 6-7, Code: XCHLC 072

Amusement Park Physics – Put physical science to the test by designing and constructing a large, looped roller coaster and other amusement park rides, such as a Scrambler, Pirate Ship, Ferris Wheel and a Carousel. Problem solve concepts of motion, force, energy and speed.

Grades: 6-7, Code: XCHLC 089

CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) – Become a super sleuth! Learn about forensics, investigation, and crime lab chemistry as you perform experiments to find out how tricky cases are solved. Search for evidence, gather clues and discover how science can help solve a mystery. Dust for fingerprints, analyze handwriting, test for blood type and DNA using simulated blood and use “glow blood” to see what humans can’t. Examine hair and clothing fibers, mystery substances and more.

Grades: 5-7, Code: XCHLC 112
