Short-Term Faculty-Led Program
Culture and Education in the Dominican Republic
July 7 -18, 2010
Discover the culture and the people of the Dominican Republic through a short-tem summer abroad program. This service learning program will offer Education Majors and other students not only insight into the cultural history of the Dominican Republic, but also an experience of hands-on volunteering and interactions within the diverse school environments of local communities.
We will visit Santo Domingo and the Colonial City as well as the Museum of Dominican Man. In Santiago de los Caballeros we will tour both cultural museums and special camps devoted to working with street children.
The Service Learning portion of the program will consist of spending five days at the Guzman Aria DREAM Summer Camp working with the children. During that time, we will be staying in the beach town of Cabarete .

Mon., Dec. 7 – 5-6p.m. in MAC 110
Participants will be enrolled in one of the following Brookdale courses for credit or audit (3 credits) :
EDUC 295 - Special Topics in Education
SOC 105 – Intercultural Communication
