Lincroft, NJ – Recently graduated softball star Danielle Davenport (Cliffwood Beach, NJ/Matawan)
ha
s received yet another National award. The righty catcher was named the NJCAA Division III Diamond Catcher of the Year, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaching Association (NFCA) and Diamond Sports, the NFCA’s “Official Protective Equipment”.
The award is presented annually to the top catcher from NFCA member schools in each of the following divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II, III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC, Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) and high school. Divisional committees consisting of NFCA member coaches determined the award winners.
Davenport enjoys her second National award this year, as she was previously named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division III first-team All-American. Just the latest in a string of honors, the Cliffwood Beach-product was also named to the Region XIX and GSAC first teams. Wasting no time making an impact as a freshman, she earned second-team All Region XIX and All-GSAC honors to open her Brookdale campaign. Last season, the offensive powerhouse led the team in runs with 70 while batting .453 with 59 RBI, three triples, 21 doubles and 72 hits.
The Brookdale Community College softball team finished its 2009 campaign with a record of 35-16.
