FRESHMAN VICKY DETATA NAMED NJCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME
AS BROOKDALE WOMEN CLIMB UP NATIONAL POLL
Lincroft, NJ – For the second time in three weeks, Brookdale Community College women’s basketball player Vicky DeTata (Brick, NJ/Brick) was named the Division III Player of the Week, as announced by the National Junior
College Athletic Association league office Wednesday.
DeTata averaged 17.6 points in a week that saw the Jersey Blues on the road for three straight contests. The sophomore forward shot 63 percent over the stretch, which started off with an 85-33 win over Atlantic Cape. In that game, DeTata went four-for-four from long range to score a game-high 19 points. She then followed that performance with a triple-double showing at Gloucester, hitting the double-digit mark in points (20), rebounds (10) and assists (10). Her game-high 20 points came off of shooting 10-for-17 from the field. In the road trip finale, the Brick native poured in 14 points to go along with 10 assists for a double-double in a 68-48 win over Bergen. The stealthy point guard also averaged 3.66 steals for the week ending on January 25th.
The Jersey Blues, who jumped up to the number three spot in the National poll, hold the second-longest win streak in the Nation, with an overall mark of 16-0. The team previously held the fourth position for three consecutive weeks.
Next up, Brookdale will face Cumberland on the road tonight, January 28. The game is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
