BROOKDALE WOMEN LOSE FINAL NJCAA TOURNAMENT GAME TO END SEASON
Down by only three at halftime, the Brookdale Community College women’s basketball team could not muster up enough points for a come-from-behind win, as the Jersey Blues suffered their second and final loss of the season, a 73-62 upset at the hands of Anoka-Ramsey College. The Jersey Blues finish the 2009-10 campaign with a record of 26-2 overall.
In the season finale, freshman Brielle Martinez (Manasquan, NJ/Hamilton West) posted a double-double, by scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Fellow classmate Keriann Cassarello (Keansburg, NJ/Keansburg) recorded nearly a double-double of her own, by draining nine points and pulling down 12 rebounds, while Michelle Blum (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded 17 points in the upset.
For her efforts during the National tournament, Martinez was named to the NJCAA Division III All-Tournament team. Over the course of the three-day span, the freshman guard averaged 15.7 points per game, while shooting 18-for-36 (50.5%) from the field.
