September 7nd 2010- The Brookdale men’s soccer team won its fifth straight with a tough fought 1-0 defeat of Region XIX rival Bergen Community College (1-1). Deadlocked for over 88 minutes, the Jersey Blues (5-0; 3-0) received the game winning tally when Braiam Duran (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) helped himself to his first collegiate goal, blasting a Sebastian Carbonell (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) placed ball over the keeper’s head. Each team had a handful of scoring opportunities in the match, with the Jersey Blues placing 15 shots on goal. The Bulldogs, who got off 17 shots, were unable to put one past Blues’ goalkeeper, Antonio Jorge (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) who made eight saves in his finest outing of the year thus far. The Jersey Blues will next face reigning NJCAA National Champions, and top-ranked Union County College on Thursday, September 9th at Union. The last time the two teams met, Union defeated Brookdale, 4-1, to advance to the 2009 Region XIX Championship game. |
