New Pathways To Teaching

Change your life – become a teacher!  Brookdale Community College is collaborating with participating New Jersey Community Colleges and New Jersey City University (NJCU) to offer New Pathways To Teaching In New Jersey (NPTNJ), an alternate route to teacher certification.

The program provides an opportunity for people to become teachers who have a BS, BA, or higher degree and who did not complete a traditional teacher preparation program. The 200 hour program starts in early summer and January.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Bachelor or higher degree
  • 2.75 minimum GPA in highest degree (No exceptions)
  • Passing Praxis II score
  • Certificate of Eligibility (CE)

Introduction To Teaching 24-hour Pre-Service Program - Anyone applying for a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) is required to complete the Introduction To Teaching 24-hour Pre-service Program.
