Online Teaching Certification Course - Required to Teach Fully Online Courses at Brookdale
The TLC offers an online teaching certification course for faculty members who will be teaching fully online courses. The program runs over a seven to eight week period, presented in an online format. During the course faculty work together online to 
learn the basics and best practices for being an online instructor.
Some of the objectives for faculty participants are to:
- Understand Bloom's Taxonomy
- Understand the importance of instructor credibility for learning
- Understand components of Active Learning
- Become familiar with a range of discussion prompts and responses
- Develop discussion questions and consider questions from other faculty
- Identify goals for student participation in a course discussion and scaffold the question accordingly
- Explore the challenges and opportunities of online teaching and learning
- Understand the barriers to online course completion
- Understand the needs of the adult learner
- Understand the elements of course design
- Understand the American with Disabilities Act (section 508) requirements
- Understand the Quality Matters Rubric
