The Jersey Blues returned to their winning ways in 2007 behind the strong play of goalkeeper Greg Gantt (Neptune), sweeper Vic Masino (Howell) and All Region and All Conference players Brian Galicia (Ocean) and John Loiodice (Brick Memorial) respectfully. The Jersey Blues posted a 13-5-3 record and reached the Region XIX Final, falling to national top seed Union in the final. BCC opened the season by capturing the N.Y. Empire Kick-Off Classic in Upstate N.Y. The 13 victories were the most wins posted since the national finalist team of 2002. Joe Shan (Central Regional) lead the team in scoring. GK Gantt played every minute of season to lead the defense. Strong showings were made by freshman standouts Dan Mullaney (Howell) and John Cella (Matawan), and as well as Loiodice.Outstanding freshmen performances provide a strong returning class for the 2008 BCC Men’s Soccer season.
2008 Outlook
The Jersey Blues are looking forward to the 2008 season. The 2007 Regional Finalists return a core of veteran players lead by All Conference mid-fielder John Loiodice (Brick Memorial) and iron man keeper Captain Greg Gantt (Neptune).Gannt was in for every minute of play during the 2007 season. Captains Loiodice and John Cella (Matawan) anchor a strong midfield, bolstered by Cristhian Gonzalez (Columbia, South America) and outstanding freshman Augusto Dragonetti (Wall).Returning to anchor the defense are Captain Dan Mullaney and fullback Josh Bower, both of Howell High School. Leading scored Joe Shan (Central Regional) returns at forward. Freshman Joe Parella (Howell) provides the Jersey Blues with scoring. Other impressive freshman are Eric Frye (midfield/defense) and keeper Bob Dailey from Matawan. Defender Duane Gardner (Jamaica) returns to the team after a year absence. Freshman Vince Lovallo (Old Brick) and Emmanuel Gonzalez are expected to add a defensive presence to the Jersey Blue backline. Forward Brian Fernandes (Holmdel) returns to contribute to the Jersey Blue’s attack. Brookdale opens their season in the Maryland – New Jersey Shootout, featuring nationally ranked teams from the two states.
