Martin McDermott
Assistant Professor

Martin McDermott was educated at Rutgers University, Ohio State University, and the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). He was awarded a Distinguished Scholar Fellowship of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he earned a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies. Martin has also taught at Ohio State University, UCSB, Allan Hancock Community College, and Cuesta College. His research interests include reducing speech anxiety, using multimedia presentation software, and effective teaching strategies. He is the author of Speak with Courage, a guidebook for overcoming speech anxiety.
Assistant Professor McDermott grew up in New Jersey but lived for many years along the Central Coast of California. He considers Santa Barbara a second home and is an avid film fan. His favorite quote is by Mark Twain: “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”
