Martin McDermott

Martin McDermott was educated at Rutgers University, Ohio State University, and the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). He was awarded a Distinguished Scholar Fellowship of the University of California, Santa Barbara where he earned a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies. Martin has also taught at Ohio State University, UCSB, Allan Hancock Community College, and Cuesta Community College. His research interests include effective teaching strategies, speech anxiety and using multimedia presentation software. Beyond the halls of academia, Martin worked for seven years at General Motors—the world’s largest corporation.
Martin McDermott grew up in New Jersey but lived for many years along the Central Coast of California. He considers Santa Barbara a second home and is an avid film fan, guitarist, and meditator. His favorite quote is by Mark Twain: “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”
