Brookdale is committed to serving students and the community through innovative teaching, a dynamic curriculum, a supportive learning environment, numerous partnerships, and activities to promote student and community engagement. To further its commitment to students and the community, the college and the Brookdale Foundation, offer the Brookdale Innovation Grant (BIG) competition to enrich and improve the teaching and learning process. All regular employees (those whose position includes benefits) are encouraged to apply.

Purpose of BIG

The Brookdale Innovation Grant program is designed to promote innovation and creativity to bring about institutional change. Proposed projects should be based on current research, demonstrate a clear benefit to the college, and address an issue(s) of broad significance.

Projects must align with one or more of the college’s strategic goals as detailed in the 2013-2017 Jubilee Plan: Inspire Student Success; Maximize Resources; Optimize Brookdale Partnerships; and Leverage Brookdale’s Excellence.

Priority will be given to projects meeting the following criteria:

  • Proposal demonstrates innovation and creativity
  • Proposal increases quality in teaching strategies, use of technology, or implementation of innovative programs
  • Proposal creates more efficient institutional processes, program implementation, and cross-division practices
  • Proposed project can be replicated in other departments/divisions throughout the institution


All regular employees (those whose position includes benefits) are eligible to apply. Projects may be individual or collaborative, may focus on one discipline, be interdisciplinary or be cross-divisional, address a single challenge or multiple challenges.

Funding Availability

Total Program Funding:  $25,000

Award Range :  $3,000-$5,000*
*Grants of up to $5,000 may be awarded to cross-departmental and/or divisional collaborations that demonstrate significant institutional impact.

Anticipated Number of Awards:  7-10
