Mission Statement
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible to guide, assess, plan, develop and execute state-of-the-art information technologies in support of all academic disciplines and administrative functions. The OIT mission is to support Brookdale Community College (BCC) staff in the use of current technologies that will enhance and strengthen the teaching/learning process. OIT organizes and coordinates distribution lists to enable BCC management to easily prioritize the strategic deployment and equitable distribution of computing and data communications resources and services that enhance the quality of academic and administrative programs and improve student, faculty and staff effectiveness throughout the College.

In practical terms, OIT has a responsibility to support the current technology at BCC while planning and implementing continuing evolution in technology. OIT is responsible for all computer and telephone technology used by Brookdale Community College (BCC) Students, Staff, Faculty, and Administrators. Currently OIT supports an Administrative Datatel Colleague Digital Equipment (SUN) SUNFIRE V12/80 that has phased out the COMPAQ 8400, 2004 and the IBM Mainframe environment before it, 1999. In addition we support approximately 3200 desktop computers and 100 network printers. Our GigE backbone network infrastructure, provides over 6000 switched 10/100 Ethernet ports directly to the desktop. The network provides for network access all over campus. We also support 1200 telephones distributed within the Lincroft campus and five extension sites at Long Branch, Bayshore, Freehold, Asbury Park, and our Communiversity site in Wall Township. Visit the Computer Laboratories and Technology Improvement Plan pages for more detail on computer distribution.
In 1997 the stated goals of the Information Technology Strategic Plan included a major campus network, year 2000 compliance by replacing the Administrative System and Library System, distance learning initiatives, and continued planning for the evolution of technology. BCC/OIT has completed the goals (new Network, new Administrative System, new Library System) and have built the environment enabling BCC to pursue distance learning initiatives including online and web-enhanced courses. Subsequently the ITSP II has been developed, and ITSP III is under development and will guide our future IT initiatives.
