Describe one of your biggest achievements as a Brookdale faculty member:
I was able to help grow the Brookdale Political Science department into the top-notch program that it is today. When I arrived in the fall of 1999, the Political Science department only had two 200-level courses. Now it has five. The department also had zero online courses. Today it has four, and a student can complete the Political Science program fully online.
Do you work outside of the college as well?
I am an adjunct professor of Political Science teaching upper-level courses at the Rutgers Western Monmouth Campus in Freehold, which is home of the Brookdale/Rutgers partnership. My colleague Jonathan Moschberger and I have published a textbook with Kendall Hunt publishers titled Give Me Liberty or Give Me Laughs: Studying Politics Through Cartoon. I am also a U.S. Congressional Medal winner for my service in the U.S. Antarctic Program.
What would you say is your most memorable moment – or moments – as a member of the Brookdale community?
Being able to teach war veterans from the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan and helping them further their educational and career goals.
What do you think separates Brookdale from other colleges?
Brookdale has many programs, facilities, and building spaces that most community colleges do not have. It is the breadth of those resources that makes Brookdale such a wonderful place for students to come study.
Would you recommend that students take a class in your department?
Yes. Any student will benefit from a course – or courses – in political science. No one can escape the reach and influence of politics; no one.
