LINCROFT, NJ (Sept. 9, 2015) – Award-winning poets and authors, an acclaimed graphic novelist and a former Monmouth County professor will headline this year’s Visiting Writer Series, which kicks off Oct. 5 at Brookdale Community College, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft.

The free lecture series will begin with an Oct. 5 talk by poets Ilyse Kusnetz and Michael Broek. Kusnetz is the author of “The Gravity of Falling” and “Small Hours,” which won the 2014 T.S. Eliot Prize from Truman State University Press. Broek is the author of “Refuge/es,” winner of the Kinereth Gensler Award for poetry.

The series will continue on Nov. 3 with acclaimed author, playwright and poet William Jon Watkins. An Ocean Township resident, Watkins was also a founding faculty member at Brookdale, where he served as a humanities professor until his retirement in 2008.

The series will conclude on Dec. 7 with a program featuring award-winning poet Tim Seibles and best-selling author and graphic novelist Mat Johnson.

Seibles is the author of five collections of poetry including “Fast Animal,” which was a finalist for the 2012 National Book Award. Johnson is the author of four acclaimed novels including “Pym” and “Loving Day” and the graphic novels “Incognegro,” “Dark Rain” and “Right State.”

All talks begin at 7 p.m. in Brookdale’s Warner Student Life Center. They are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. A suggested donation of $3 can be made to support the Brookdale Creative Writing Club.
