Dear Friends of Brookdale,
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled the Brookdale Community College Foundation Scholarship Ball that was scheduled for June 5th. Realizing that our most vulnerable students are now facing even more uncertainty, we are instead shifting our focus to a more pressing need; the immediate welfare of our most vulnerable students.
So instead of asking our loyal supporters to take Scholarship Ball sponsorships, ads, to buy tickets and contribute auction items, we are asking everyone to contribute to the COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund. The funds will provide emergency scholarships and grants to students facing food and housing insecurity, loss of income, lack of Wi-Fi access for online classes and other basic needs.
The Federal CARES Act will provide funding to Colleges to deliver direct financial assistance to students impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. The College has “polled” students and those who meet the guidelines will receive funding.
The guidelines for use of funds, however, excludes some of our most vulnerable students leaving entire segments of our student population left out of much needed support. These include international students, immigrant students and part-time students, which impacts many of immigrant ESL students who only take classes part-time. This fund will seek to help all in need.
Many of the nurses, healthcare workers, first-responders, EMTs, police and others who are in the frontlines battling this pandemic are Brookdale alumni. So, while the campaign is designed to help students, we hope that people will also consider donating in honor of those Brookdale graduates who are helping to make a difference.
We are grateful to The Stone Foundation of New Jersey for generously donating $50,000 to help us reach our $125,000 goal! So, in addition to asking alumni and friends, we are also asking you our Brookdale family to support this effort. Together we can rise to the challenge of this donor’s generous gift and help make an immediate impact by donating to the COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund. Your gift is 100% tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Click here to donate on our secure site https://BCCFCovidFund.givesmart.com
Thank you and stay safe!
