On May 17, 2019 the Brookdale Foundation honored Francine and Ron Acquaviva, Chef David Burke and Rutgers University and the Division of Continuing Studies at the Foundation’s annual Scholarship Ball held at Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club. More than 300 people attended the event and helped the Foundation raise nearly $120,000 for its “Invest in Student Success” Scholarship Fund.

The event Co-Chairs were Carol Stillwell, President of Stillwell-Hansen, Inc., Candy Langan-Sattenspiel, Sattenspiel Surgical Arts Pavilion, and Karen Escobedo, Community Relations Director at New Jersey Natural Gas. Sattenspiel and Escobedo, serve on the Brookdale Community College Foundation Board of Trustees and are Brookdale alumna.

Ron and Fran Acquaviva have remained engaged in both business and community endeavors as their development company helped change much of the landscape of Holmdel and surrounding towns in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Through the years, they have continued to give generously to the community they love supporting a variety of charities by serving on boards, chairing events, and giving generously of their time, talent and treasure.

World-renowned chef David Burke, a native of Monmouth County, is one of the leading pioneers in American cooking today. His fascination with ingredients and the art of the meal has fueled a thirty-year career marked by creativity, critical acclaim and the introduction of revolutionary products and cooking techniques.

Rutgers University and the Division of Continuing Studies was honored in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Brookdale-Rutgers University Partnership. In celebration of the 20th anniversary, the Rutgers University and the Division of Continuing Studies is also offering a new scholarship, The Rutgers Brookdale 20th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship for Brookdale students who plan to transfer to Rutgers University.  10 – $2000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2019-20 academic year only, open to full time Brookdale students who have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

The Brookdale Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that raises funds to provide scholarships to Brookdale students and to fund programs that support student access and opportunity.

“The Scholarship Ball is vitally important to the Brookdale Foundation’s mission of engaging local individuals, businesses and organizations in raising funds for scholarships and programs so that Brookdale students can achieve their dream of earning a college degree and building better futures for themselves, their families and our community,” said Tim Zeiss, Executive Director, Foundation & Alumni Affairs.

The event also features a live, silent and gift basket auction. Some of the Live Auction items include an one-week stay at a luxury villa in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a Lobster Feast and an Artisan Pizza Experience for 10  couples provided by Chef David Burke with fine wines and fine cheeses; performing  live on state with Brian Kirk & The Jerks included with a day package at the Edgewater Beach Club; and a five night stay at the luxurious Mammoth Mountain ski resort in California. The silent auction features more than 50 high value items including concert tickets, restaurant packages, jewelry and more.
