What brought you to Brookdale?
I had worked in the fashion and retail industry for 13+ years. I had always loved the training and development component of my jobs, namely my job as a district trainer for a large national retailer. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to assist a college in the development of their fashion program and teach part-time. I then began teaching part-time at Brookdale and am now beginning my third year as a full-time instructor in the Fashion/Marketing department.

Describe one or more of your biggest achievements as a Brookdale faculty member:
I have had the opportunity to serve on the College Life governance committee and serve as an advisor to the Brookdale Fashion Club. The Fashion Club has had some amazing events over the past year including a fall boutique show, spring fashion show and spring field trip to New York City, where we visited showrooms and attended a fashion show. I am also extremely proud of the work our department has been doing in developing a design program and making valuable changes to our program to make it more relevant to today’s global fashion industry. These changes include the development of a Global Sourcing and Sustainability course, which is one of the capstone courses for all of our fashion students. We have also established key relationships with several four-year colleges in New Jersey and New York that make it easy for a student to complete their associate degree in fashion at Brookdale and transfer to one of these colleges and finish their bachelor’s degree.

Do you work outside of the college?
I teach part time in addition to my work at Brookdale and am also involved in the New Jersey Collegiate Business Administration Association (NJCBAA). This organization provides us with a tremendous opportunity to network with two-year and four-year colleges as well as business professionals throughout New Jersey. I was recently able to attend the NJCBAA induction ceremony at the statehouse in Trenton where four of our Brookdale students were inducted.

What would you say is your most memorable moment – or moments – as a member of the Brookdale community?
It’s hard to narrow down my experiences at Brookdale to a few moments – there have been so many! Any time a student completes the program and goes on to either their dream career or dream college, that is a win for all of us. Because of the various courses I teach, I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to engage with the students throughout their entire time at Brookdale, so when I see them at graduation I am ecstatic for them and what their future holds. Every student at Brookdale takes a different path upon graduation, whether it be to open their own boutique, become a buyer in NYC, become a visual merchandiser for a major retailer, or any of the other various careers or educational endeavors they choose. I am continually amazed by the good work these students do and their accomplishments both while they are here at Brookdale and out in the “real world.”

What do you think separates Brookdale from other colleges?
I had an opportunity to teach elsewhere and chose to teach at Brookdale because I am continually amazed at the support and teamwork I see from each and every person and department I have worked with since my very first day. Students really are the number one priority, and every single person here cares about the success of our students. It’s the main reason why I love coming to work every day.
