Career Peer Mentors
Career Peer Mentors is a new leadership program for currently enrolled students who are interested in connecting with our first year students in a meaningful way!

If you are interested in becoming a Career Peer Mentor, below is the criteria:
- Completion of at least 1 full semester of coursework at Brookdale Community College
- GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Must have an interest in helping first year students succeed
- Must complete an online application and submit 1 letter of recommendation (Application can be found using the College Central Network)
- Interview with a Career & Leadership Development staff member
- Current or past involvement in a program offered by Career & Leadership Development while at Brookdale
- Complete a required training
- Commit to an academic year of mentoring
*10 hours minimum per week dedicated to the duties of a Career Peer Mentor in both the Fall and Spring semesters (some weeks may be less).
Below are the duties of a Career Peer Mentor:
- Attend a training session
- Interact with the students in the assigned course through class sessions as well as through smaller group and one-on-one meetings (space on campus will be provided for small group meetings)
- Provide information and serve as a resource on all things “Brookdale” for new students (answering questions about where to go for assistance, whom to speak with, what forms to complete, etc.)
- Act as a “go-to” person for students on topics ranging from study skills, time management, organization, career information, goal-setting, or future planning
- Stay up to date on events and workshop provided by a variety of departments on campus to share with new students and encourage participation (including student life & activities events, career & leadership events, international center events, athletic events, etc.)
- Answer general questions from students about experiential learning opportunities such as internships, resume writing, career exploration resources, volunteer opportunities, on-campus employment opportunities, etc.)
- Accurately manage funding for group meetings with students including lunches, coffee breaks, snacks, etc.
- Maintain contact with students throughout the Fall and Spring Semesters
