Lincroft, NJ (May 20, 2014) —A commemoration of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944, co-sponsored by New Jersey Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (13th Legislative District, Monmouth County) and the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution at Brookdale Community College, will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, in the Warner Student Life Center on Brookdale’s Lincroft campus.
Veterans of the Normandy campaign, including Technician Sixth Grade Peter J. Logerfo, Section Chief Arthur Seltzer, Purple Heart Awardee Bernard I. Friedenberg, Staff Sergeant Edward C. Gorman and Mortarman Joseph C. Pisano will be honored for their brave and selfless actions on June 6, 1944.
Guest speaker is Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff, adjutant general, New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The event will include displays and exhibits provided by the 102nd Armored Cavalry Association, Info-AgeScienceLearningCenter, and military memorabilia collector John Egger.
Participating in the event will be Assemblywoman Handlin, Monmouth County Freeholder John Curley, Brookdale President Maureen Murphy and Paul Zigo, associate history professor and founder and former director of the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution. The Rev. Milton Holmes, a World War II veteran, will say the invocation. David Bassano and Ashley Zampogna-Krug, co-directors of the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution, will serve as masters of ceremonies.
