Piano For Procrastinators

If you meant to learn the piano years ago, the time has arrived! Join fellow beginners in the wonderful world of music at Brookdale’s piano lab – where you can learn to play your favorite songs. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, a sense of humor and a pencil. Music materials provided. Enrollment is limited. 4 SESSIONS

Beautiful Voice – Raise Your Voice, Raise Your Spirits

Stop believing you can’t sing! In fact, science suggests singing techniques can help restore a youthful quality to one’s voice. We will explore how to balance the coordination of inhalation and controlled exhalation for producing sound and creating internal resonance. Applying the latest scientific research to tried and true vocal exercises, you will feel your voice becoming clearer, stronger and younger sounding. Appropriate music for group study will be provided and musical requests are always welcome. Last class will include an informal recital. 4 SESSIONS.

Five-String Banjo (Beginner/Intermediate)

A fun course for all! Whether you are a beginner or want to dust off your banjo and get playing again, this class is for you. First, get acquainted, or reacquainted, with your instrument: set-up, tuning, proper posture, picks, basic rolls, hammer-ons, slides and pull-offs. Then the fun begins: learn songs to apply your skills. For the experienced player, Ken will provide you with more challenging pieces to learn advanced techniques. Bluegrass & Country Fiddle (Beginner/Intermediate)

Calling all aspiring fiddlers! Understand the basics of bluegrass and country fiddling: the fretless fingerboard, proper positions and mechanics (to avoid frustrating mistakes), figuring out a melody, and effective practice. Instructor is a violin luthier, and he will check out your fiddle, its physical health and tonal potential. 4 SESSIONS

In this class, offered by a local band and jam session leader, you are going to learn simple tricks of the trade for how to grow confidence and be successful with chords, progressions and scales. This is your chance to take  advantage of the simple, shortcut guide everyone needs to be successful jamming at home, with friends and live on stage!
