“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”
(Colin Powell)
Summer Bridge 2019 officially kicks off with our EOF New Student & Parent Assembly on Friday, June 28, 2019. It is followed by the six-week program, which runs from July 8 – August 15, 2019, and concludes with the EOF New Student Convocation on Friday, August 16, 2019.
EOF students are assigned to one of two designated Summer Bridge programs, based on Accuplacer, SAT, or ACT scores. Both sessions – the Foundational Studies Session and the A-Bridged Session – are six weeks in length, and are free of cost!
All students have an EOF Student Success Coach who works directly with them. One-to-one meetings are held to begin discussing academic, personal, career, and financial needs as student success plans are shaped by the student – in collaboration with their EOF Student Success Coach. (This guidance includes a “financial aid health check” to determine if there are any matters that require further attention in establishing eligibility for federal and state grants.)
A. Reading, Writing, and Math Foundational Studies Sessions
A student’s weekly schedule is based on their assigned session. The foundational studies sessions are held at Lincroft, Long Branch, and Neptune. All classes are offered Mondays – Thursdays, and are 1/2 day sessions. Built into each schedule are the following:
- Foundational Studies Focus
- Student Development Common Core
- Support Service & Independent Study Block
Students who need to strengthen their reading or math basic skills are enrolled in test prep classes to prepare them for retaking the Accuplacer Placement Test. Students enrolled in the writing focus session will sit for the Writing Challenge Essay. Successful retesting allows a student to advance their fall enrollment in higher level courses.
Students are encouraged to use the Support Service & Independent Study Block built into their schedules for any of the following reasons:
- schedule coaching/advising appointments with an EOF Student Success Coach
- attend meetings to address financial aid processing
- receive assistance from Writing and/or Math Learning Assistants
- complete assignments for class
