The Impacts of Internal Economic, Social, and Political Divisions on Haitian Communities Living Abroad – Guest Speaker – Dr. Jean Eddy Saint Paul, Professor of Sociology and former founding director of the Haitian Studies Institute, City University of New York.
There are 3.5 million Haitians living outside of Haiti, but Haitian communities living abroad do not pull a proportional political weight. Professor Saint-Paul will explain how internal divisions contribute to this result. He will tell us how they have arisen, how they are related to historic divisions in Haitian society, and what can be done in the near term to begin mitigating them.
