Great songwriters have always been attracted to using people and events from history – both well-known and unsung – as a means to captivate and educate listeners. From Pontius Pilate in Sympathy for the Devil to the founding of our nation in Hamilton, from Sherman’s March in The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” right up through 9/11 in The Rising, songs can be an enticing entry point for further exploring the history behind the song. Join professional musician and educator Pat Barton as he guides you on a six-hour musical journey through the past.
