Monday, September 29: Bridging the Civic Information Gap: Democracy Begins at Home
Presenter: Maggie Doucette, Public Affairs Consultant
Time: 11 a.m. to 12 noon
Location: Twin Lights, Student Life Center
Description: Local news is disappearing, and with it, our connection to the decisions shaping our communities. This workshop explores the growing civic information gap and how it threatens democracy at the most local level. Through real-life examples and interactive mapping, participants will learn how to identify information breakdowns, navigate public records, attend local meetings, and share what they discover. You don’t need to be a journalist or politician to make a difference. You just need to be willing to pay attention. This session offers practical tools and a starting point for anyone ready to step into public life and help rebuild civic trust from the ground up.
