Wages, Work, and the Market in Creative Fields
You are invited to join us in the CVA Gallery on Thursday, April 27 from 12 – 1:15 pm for a Living Room Conversation on the topics of “Wages, Work and the Market in Creative Fields”.
The current CVA Gallery Exhibit, Entanglements, which features the work of Newark-based artist Amanda Thackray is the point of departure for this conversation. As Thackray has asserted, “At Brookdale, I am interested in foregrounding the labor of artmaking….The thread of connective labor runs through the course of the exhibition, and will be embedded in the final woven sculpture.” Throughout the exhibit we hosted Labor Tables where we taught Thackray’s traditional Korean papermaking (hanji) technique of twining paper called jisung to visitors and had engaging discussions about how we think about fair wages and compensation for visible and invisible labor in creative fields.
All are welcome and this event is free and open to the public. We would especially encourage second year students to join us as many of them are preparing to begin careers and professional practice.
If you have not yet seen our exhibit we encourage you to visit us during our closing week.
