German Expressionist Art: Origins & Legacy

October 17 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

German Expressionism is a fascinating topic blending history, art, culture, and cinema. This early 20th century art style emphasizes the artist’s inner thoughts and emotions and aims to evoke emotion in the viewer rather than replicate reality. The German Expressionist movement captured the uncertainty and unrest that followed the first World War. German Expressionist filmmakers created some of the greatest works in early cinema, including Nosferatu, Metropolis, and the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. With the onset of the second World War, German Expressionist filmmakers fled to Hollywood, bringing their stylistic vision. This led to the origins of popular modern film genres, like film noir and horror. Explore the art, films, and legacy of this influential movement. 2 SESSIONS
