Justice Alito has stated this Court is not accountable to Congress. Is that true? Article III of the Constitution established the Court as a separate branch of government Congress also funds the Court. Congressional Judiciary Acts have set the justices’ salaries, and the term of their tenure as well as the Court’s docket and its appellate jurisdiction. Its decisions are the supreme law of the land, binding Congress and the President. Has the Court’s power to interpret the Constitution made it more powerful than either Congress or the President? The Court’s new weak Code of Conduct is unenforceable, and expensive gifts to specific Justices continue. Is the Court a law unto itself? We shall explore together.
