The reading circle is open to all– Brookdale staff, faculty, students, families, community, from our home to yours. Everyone is welcome here.
My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa MenakemBrookdale Community College’s Reading Circle, installment #3. After the 400 Years of Inequality Timeline we are continuing together as a professional learning community and delving deeper. Trauma is a collective experience, then, the healing must be collective as well. “You will not just read this book. You will experience it in your body – the only place where the mending of racialized (or any) trauma can happen.” – Resmaa Menakem.
This is a joint effort between the Bankier Library and Diversity & Inclusion.

The reading will take place on our own. You’ll be responsible for getting your own book.
Several are available in the Bankier Library at Brookdale Community College.

1. On Tuesday November 1, 5:00 PM, we will gather LIVE to process the book on Zoom.

2. On Thursday November 3, 11:30 AM to 1:15PM, we will gather In-Person to practice the meditation, body practices, and yoga described in the book. Dress comfortably. Some yoga mats available or bring your own.
