Dan Leyes Professor in Speech
Professor Daniel Leyes is many things to many people. He is an educator, an entertainer, an artist, coach, and consultant. And that is just his public life.
What few know is that his formative years were the result traumatic childhood neglect, he took on the “Lost Child” role common in dysfunctional families. In a life marred by alcoholism, drug abuse, mental illness he beat the odds—things don’t usually go well for Lost Children—and somehow persisted through it all only to emerge as content, productive, and optimistic about the future.
Daniel Leyes holds a master’s degree in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University. He has been teaching college and university courses since 1987, teaching primarily at Southern Illinois University, St. John’s University (NY) and the final 25 years at Brookdale Community College, (NJ).
He is the author of Public Speaking in the Semiosphere: Creating a Meaningful Experience for Your Audience with co-author Howard Miller. Leyes has also released a CD of original music called A Single Step and numerous singles. His music can be found on Spotify, YouTube, and all streaming outlets under the name Daniel Leyes. He can be found playing live throughout Monmouth County.
