First, discover the origins of Ukraine and the Ukrainian People from Prince Vladimir/Volodymyr and Kievan Rus.  Move on to the Middle Ages and discuss Ukraine as part of Poland-Lithuania; the influx of Jews into the area, their function and their relationship with their Christian neighbors. Then analyze Ukraine under Tsar and Emperor: from the 18th to the 20th century, developments affecting Ukrainians and their Jewish neighbors, and the rise of nationalism. Finally, understand the developments of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: under the Soviets, the Second World War, and the Holocaust.  Now an independent state, how has Ukraine fared and what might the future hold?  4 SESSIONS
