On Monday, October 15, 2018, the New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) at Brookdale Community College will present its fifth annual “Women Entrepreneurs Rock” event at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ from 6:00-9:30 pm (with networking until 10 pm). This in-demand, free event is for business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs throughout New Jersey. The goal of the Women Entrepreneurs Rock event (#WeRockSmallBiz and #WER5) is to facilitate a real dialog about topics that are important to women business owners, with this year’s event focusing on the ability to empower others.
According to The 2017 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, produced by American Express, “As of January 2017, there are an estimated 11.6 million women-owned businesses in the United States that employ nearly 9 million people and generate more than $1.7 trillion in revenues.” The report goes on to state that “Over the past 20 years, the number of women-owned businesses has grown 114%, compared to the overall national growth rate of 44% for all businesses – a growth rate more than 2.5 times the national average.”
“Women-owned businesses continue to grow in New Jersey and we want to support this growth by offering key information and resources needed for their success”, says Jackeline Mejias-Fuertes, Director of the NJSBDC at Brookdale Community College. “Women Entrepreneurs Rocks is, by far, not your standard business event. From the venue to the topics to the speakers, our goal is to meet entrepreneurs where they live and offer current and candid insight, as we have done in the previous four years of running this event. There are no formalities nor canned responses…just real information from those who have successfully navigated the process of launching and growing a business and leading a team.” This year’s panelists will discuss their varied backgrounds, successes and challenges along the way and offer valuable advice to fellow business owners. There will also be a live Q&A exchange as well as the ability to pre-submit questions for the panel to discuss at the event. The evening will be capped off by an opportunity for networking with other professionals in attendance.
NJSBDC at Brookdale Community College is proud to announce that the keynote speaker for Women Entrepreneurs Rock 5 is Melanie Willoughby, Director of the New Jersey Business Action Center, and will be moderated by Ivy Charmatz, Executive Producer, News & Special Projects at News 12 New Jersey. The 2018 panel of dynamic entrepreneurs include:
• Gloria Booker – Co-Owner, Eternity Funeral Home
• Jacquie Fiorito – Charter Sales, Apollo Jets
• Alexandra Michelle Gonzalez – CEO & Founder, Savvy Marketers LLC
• Susan Hordych – Owner & Founder, Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe
• Jennifer Smiga – Co-Owner, Marketing Rival
