DESCRIPTION: \nStudents will be quizzed on a variety of subjects\, including mathematics\, “women in STEM\,” environmental science\, physics\, biology\, chemistry\, computer science and engineering. Each team will be comprised of six representatives from a variety of STEM majors\, who will work together to complete timed multistep problems\, trivia\, and even trick questions on white erase boards. The first place team will be awarded six $100 Visa gift cards! The second place team will be awarded six $75 Visa gift cards. The third place team will be awarded six $50 Visa gift cards. \nThe STEM Quiz Bowl is organized and hosted by the Student Life Board\, the Brookdale Math Club\, the Physics and Astronomy Club\, W.E.S.T.\, the Biology Club\, the Chemistry Society\, the Computer Science Club\, the Engineering Student Association\, and the Environmental Club. \nAll teams are currently full. Please come to Navesink I\,II\,III at 11:30 on 4/2 as we will need to fill the team spots for contestants who do not show up. Will New Jersey take the lead? \nDoors open at 6:00 PM.  Program starts at 6:30 PM.  Meeting is free and open to the public. \nNew Jersey has been a technology leader for 100’s of years. Some places are geographically better suited to innovate than others\, but is almost shocking to realize that New Jersey has always been at the vanguard of technology whether it is canals\, railroads\, industrial parks\, traffic circles flight\, electric light and power\, flight\, rocketry\, radio\, telecommunications\, pharmaceuticals\, radar or computers . Today New Jersey may once again be in the vanguard by being able to develop a true sustainable energy triad by taking advantage of the synergy of Solar Wind and Wave power. This presentation explores the conditions that are emerging in New Jersey and how it could change the way we live environmentally and economically. \nRik van Hemmen is the President of Martin & Ottaway\, Inc\, a marine engineering firm headquartered in Tinton Falls\, NJ.\nHe is a Licensed Professional Engineer and\, at present\, he is also the President of SurfWEC\, a technology company that is developing wave energy conversion systems. He has been a New Jersey resident since 1976 and has been involved in worldwide and Monmouth County environmental issues his entire career. In 2016 he proposed the Sandy Hook National Marine Sanctuary\, and he is the President of the Navesink Maritime heritage Association. \n

DESCRIPTION:This year’s New Jersey State Holocaust Remembrance Commemoration Program features keynote speaker Dr. Agnes Grunwald-Spier\, child survivor of the Holocaust and author of Women in the Holocaust: In Their Own Words. \nThis moving commemorative program also includes a candle-lighting ceremony featuring local Holocaust survivors who are escorted by sailors from Naval Weapons Station Earle\, as well as a musical performance by a local high school choir. All are welcome to this powerful remembrance event. \nWe invite Holocaust Survivors\, their families\, student groups\, college students\, and the public to attend this commemorative program on Friday\, May 3\, 2019 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please register at www.chhange.org \n
