With this formal “Call for Entries,” we are asking area artists to consider whether they’d like to participate in (1) a Theme Exhibition -juried, entitled “Artistic Journeys” or (2) Rent the CVA Gallery for a 4-Week show. A non-refundable Application Fee of $25.00, is requested for those interested in applying to any of the 2019 Exhibition Opportunities outlined below. This fee is payable by Personal Check or Money Order made out to: Brookdale Community College, and sent to: Marie Maber, Art Department, Brookdale Community College, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, New Jersey, 07738. The Online Application and Fee Paid for the “Artistic Journeys” exhibition will be due by December 15, 2018. Notification will be made by Friday, January 5, 2019. Online Application and Fee Paid for Gallery Rentals will be due February 1st, 2019, with Notifications made by February 15th, 2019. Each application requires inclusion of 5 jpeg images and an Artist’s Statement included on our Online Application form.
Overview of Two Upcoming Opportunities:
- The first “Opportunity” is a Theme Exhibition entitled, “Artistic Journeys,” which will be on view January 23 – February 28th, 2019. This is planned as a combined Juried/Invitational Show. The date of the Opening Reception is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, January 31st. Two artists have been invited, Brookdale English Department Associate Professor and Visual Artist, Colleen Lineberry, and Professional Ceramist, Lisa Naples, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Each of these artists will present a brief gallery talk on the evening of the opening reception. In addition to Lineberry and Naples, there will be an additional 5 Artists juried into the main gallery for this show – exhibiting not only current works, but also including a couple of their works that stylistically preceded their current works.
- Because artists juried into this show will be granted spaces of 23 – 27 linear feet, precise measurements should be provided for each of the 5 pieces submitted digitally on this form. Our decision to include each artist may be based on the overall quality of the work and/or the development evident within the images submitted to convey their artistic journey. Brookdale Community College requests a 20% Commission on all sales made during this show from both the juried and invited artists with works on view.
- Opportunity #2 – Compete for a 4-week time slot to be used for solo, two- three- and/or four- person shows. Within each 4-week period are included two days for set up and one day for take down and removal of works. Each of these shows is considered to be a “gallery rental” with a signed contract and fee of $1,000.00 for the time slot, one half of which to be paid in advance upon contract signing, to reserve the space. The remainder is to be paid prior to the installation of each show. Brookdale Community College will not request the customary 20% commission on sales made during the run of these shows in which artists are renting the space. Artists renting the gallery are also asked to provide gallery staff to oversee it – and publish those hours so the public will gain access to their show. Artists take responsibility for their exhibits when they agree to rent this CVA Gallery. The dates for Gallery Rentals are: June 1 – June 28; July 1 – 28; August 1 – 28, 2019.
