The Reading Center in Larrison Hall offers academic support for Brookdale students enrolled in any course who need assistance in applying reading strategies in their coursework.

Students can meet with an Instructional Assistant in a 45-minute face-to-face appointment.

Reading Instructional Assistants offer help throughout the semester by explaining strategies to help you:

  • Understand your syllabus and get organized for the semester
  • Know your textbook
  • Make sense of your textbook and articles
  • Organize the important information
  • Prepare for tests and exams
  • Suggest tips for studying with peers

The Reading Center also provides weekly assigned lab times as a fundamental component of READ 091 and READ 092. In addition, individual 45-minute appointments are offered for READ 095 students.

Students without appointments may attempt to drop-in; drop-in appointments are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and are not guaranteed. Students with scheduled appointments must arrive on time, as appointments are forfeited after five minutes. Students may use the adjacent Computer Lab without an appointment.

The main Reading Center and the Computer Lab are located in Larrison Hall, Room 124.  Reach us at 732-224-2942.

Monday-Thursday, 9 AM to 5 PM
Friday, 9 AM to 2 PM

Students may also receive reading strategy assistance at other locations.  Please call us at 732-224-2942 for current hours at our regional locations in Freehold, Hazlet, Long Branch, Neptune, and Wall.
